Tom Lee (Fundstrat): “Bitcoin koers kán naar $14.000 vanwege whales”
Een faire bitcoin prijs is $14.000, aldus aldus “bitcoinbull” Tom Lee van onderzoeksbureau Fundstrat. “Whales” gaan de koers verder opdrijven. Volgens Lee is een prijs van $14.000 mogelijk voor bitcoin (BTC). Een van de factoren is de komst van “oude whales”, grotere investeerders die in één keer 10.000 BTC kopen. De huidige koers op moment van schrijven is $4.957, omgerekend €4.415 per bitcoin.

“Whales” betreden de cryptomarkt
Lee maakt uit eigen onderzoek op dat steeds meer “oude” whales de cryptomarkt weer betreden. “Whales” zijn grotere investeerders die in één keer voor ca. een half miljoen euro aan bitcoin kopen (10.000 BTC). Een aantal van deze beleggers stapten op het hoogtepunt van de markt uit.
De alltime high (ATH) van bitcoin was op 17 december 2017 toen de cryptomunt $20.089 waard was. De koers is nu ruim 75% lager lager dan de ATH. Hij zegt onder meer bij CNBC:

And from what we can gather it’s because there have been positive things taking place. A lot of the old whale wallets are buying Bitcoin, so it’s been slow accumulation and steady accumulation. That means some of the original owners of Bitcoin, some of them who liquidated at $20,000 are starting to buy back.”[/penci_blockquote]
Fidelity en Bakkt
Lee wijst een aantal factoren aan voor zijn positivisme:

Activity has been picking up, especially in regions where there’s been a lot of inflation or political issues, like Venezuela or Turkey. And I think, finally we had a big move on April 1st. It wasn’t what caused it, but it was real evidence that there’s a lot of dry powder. That the crypto community kept a lot of cash, was waiting for Bitcoin to break $3,000. “$14.000 juiste prijs voor bitcoin”
Lee komt tot de conclusie dat $14.000 een “faire” prijs is voor bitcoin. Naast de bovenstaande factoren wijst hij ook op het groeiend aantal bitcoin adressen:

[penci_blockquote style=”style-2″ align=”none” author=””]A commodity during a bull period – and Bitcoin’s above it’s 200-day – generally trades 2 to 2.5 times its breakeven. So that would get you around $14,000, again. But in a bear market it could trade below its breakeven.[/penci_blockquote]
Lee adviseert institutionele beleggers zoals pensioen – en hedgefondsen om “1 tot 2%” van hun portfolio in bitcoin te steken.

I think this is an example that if you exclude the 10 best days, Bitcoin loses 25% a year. So, you’ve got to essentially hold it, or hodl it as they say, to really capture the gains.”[/penci_blockquote]
“Whales” in de markt
Naar verluidt zijn er circa 300 bitcoin adressen die 25% van de complete markt ($165 miljard) in handen hebben. Lee staat bekend in de industrie als een over optimistisch. De prijs van bitcoin prijs schat hij regelmatig te hoog in.
